Birthday Song Meme

Last night's Eurovision has left me in a musical mood, which is a perfect excuse for yet another music-related meme. This one is pretty simple: what was number one in the week you were born? You can find a list of every single song to have scaled the heady heights of chart success here.

Tragically the Great British public were out buying this monstrosity when I appeared on the scene:

Bah, I missed Donna Summer's I Feel Love by a measly four months.

What was your birthday song? I hereby tag
Jim, Anna, Louise, Dave and Paul, Darren, Red Maria, and Splinty. If you're not tagged feel free to have a go. It beats blogging about David Laws.

Wooden Heart by Elvis. One of my least favourite Elvis songs, but still pretty damn cool!

Tears of a clown - smokey robinson - not too bad, a day earlier and it would have been Presley's 'the wonder of you' - shudder!

My number 1 is particularly apt for an SPGBer:

Diana Ross's 'I'm Still Waiting'.

I have tried and tried to understand what you man by this.

The literal meaning of the words would suggest that you either don't recognise that Elvis was a God, or that you thinnk "Wonder of you" is a bad record.

Since neither of those are views which any sentient being could hold, then I assume you mean that it would have been such an auspicious start to your life that you would struggle to live up to it.

the Monkees- I'm a Believer
which for someone who has been through 6 different parties and groups over the past 7 years seems somewhat appropriate

For me it's Gerry & The Pacemakers 'How Do You Do It?'.

I don't even know how it goes so I'd better go and have a listen!

"Knock Three Times" by Dawn.

Would say that song around time of conception could well have been "Woodstock" by Matthew's Southern Comfort, but let's not go there...

Result! The Troggs 'With A Girl Like You' , not a bad song but mainly as an Andover boy, they're the only ever group I know of from the town. Their drummer lived in my street.

Looking at some of this stuff, I think I got off lightly.

I think i got off lightly with Don Mclean's 'Vincent' considering it's sandwiched closely between The Pipes & Drums & Military Band of The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards'Amazing Grace' (close one) and Donny Osmond's Puppy Love which is more fitting of a 'conceptual' tune if you know what i mean. As for the time of conception i think they must've been rutting away to Rod Stewart's Maggie May which is a fascinating image i just cant get out of my mind now. Sorry, probably too much info.

Here, The Beatles were riding high with Hello Goodbye, in the US it was the Monkeys with Daydream Believer. My ex has T Rex with Get It On, my kids have Chesney Hawkes One And Only, No Limits by II Unlimited and Britney with Hit Me Baby One More Time
