Five Most Popular Posts for October

The five most read posts of the month were:

1. Russell Brand and Revolution
2. Socialism for a Sceptical Age
3. A Farewell to Liberal Conspiracy
4. The State Blogging's In
5. Why the Left Hates the Daily Mail

It was always going to be the boy Brand ruling the roost, just edging out my look at Ralph Miliband's "evil legacy". But, as is always the case, what drives audiences are the issues that percolate strongly around the media's hall of mirrors. I noted last month that "straight" pieces of political commentary were finally getting some traction, and this gratifying trend has continued throughout October. Not enough to trouble the top five yet, but give it time. After all, there are only so many people picking over and pondering the actions of the government and opposition front benches.

I'm torn between posts for extra pluggage this last month. 25 Years of the Sega Mega Drive definitely needs a further shout out, because it's the Mega Drive innit. The other? I'll highlight The Sociological Imagination Revisited because the sociological illiteracy our politics displays - on all sides - is deeply, deeply worrying. How can politics hope to be effective if it fights shy of the social forces that makes it possible?
